Hebrews 12:1-2 English Standard Version (ESV)
Therefore, since we are surrounded by so great a cloud of witnesses, let us also lay aside every weight, and sin which clings so closely, and let us run with endurance the race that is set before us, 2 looking to Jesus, the founder and perfecter of our faith, who for the joy that was set before him endured the cross, despising the shame, and is seated at the right hand of the throne of God.
Reflect
- Who should be our focus while we are running the race set before us?
- What was Jesus’ hope?
- What is your hope? Is it set on the eternal or only on what you can see and touch in the here and now? (See 2 Corinthians 4:16-18.)
Apply
Grab your journal, and make two columns. In the first column, write down your hopes/goals/dreams for your life. In the second column, using John 17 as a guide, write down Jesus’ hopes/goals/dreams for your life. How do these two groups line-up?
I also really like Project 2 in the study guide for this week.* Open your Bible to John 17. As you read, imagine Christ praying for you. Insert your name where applicable, and read the prayer aloud.

Study
Go back to the verse you chose on Wednesday (Week 3, Part 1). You’ve already looked at some key words; now, try and take it a step further by doing some verse mapping! Write it out in your journal or on some colorful card stock – use it as a bookmark or stick it somewhere that you’ll see it and be reminded of God’s truth for your life!
